Author: Edward Massie (1805–1893)

Biography: Edward Massie was born in 1805 in Chester, the ninth son of the Rev. Richard Massie. His older brother was Admiral Thomas Leeke Massie. He attended Wadham College, Oxford, won the Ireland Scholarship (1828), and earned an B. A. (1830) and M. A. (1834) before taking orders himself. He served as the curate of Gawsworth for a few years. In 1845, he married Sophia Thornycroft. In addition to the single novel, he wrote a collection of poetry and translated other works. He died on 21 January 1893 in Grange-over-Sands, Lancashire.
