Biography: Mary Jane Pulleyne was born on 26 January 1832 in Chelsea, the daughter of George Schindler Brown and his wife Mary (née Harris). In 1849 she married army officer Edward Pulleyne and the couple had at least two children. While her husband was serving in India, she wrote two novels. After her husband's death, Pulleyne joined a convent in Stoke. She died there on 16 September 1909.
