Biography: Mary Jane Hope Hollings was born in 1836 in Aldbrough, Yorkshire, the eldest daughter of the Rev. Welbury J. Mitton. In 1854, she married John Hollings and the couple had several children. During the marriage, Hollings wrote three novels. Before 1871, the family moved to The Watchells in Farnham, Surrey. She died there on 24 March 1879 at the age 43 years.
