Biography: George Forrester Scott was born in 1863 in Oulton, the son of Benjamin Forrester Scott and his wife Mary. He attended St. Mary Hall, later Oriel College, Oxford. Afterwards, Scott studied art in London but eventually turned to literary pursuits, becoming a frequent contributor to the Times and other periodicals. He wrote several books, beginning with Idlehurst (1898) published under the pseudonym "John Halsham" (the name of his ancestor). As a country gentleman living at Lywood House, Ardingly, he took a great interest in local affairs. He never married and died on 11 April 1937 in Ardingly.
