Biography: Edward Pugh Rowsell was born in 1827 in Lambeth, the son of Thomas Rowsell and his wife Frances. He was active in business and his name appears on several boards of directors. In the 1850s and 1860s he contributed to several magazines including Bentley's Miscellany, the New Monthly Magazine, and the Welcome Guest. Of his two published novels, the second draws on his business experiences. In 1873, he married Amelia Gordon Hutchinson and the couple had two children. He died a few years later on 23 May 1878 in Brixton.
