Biography: Charles Wicksteed Armstrong was born on 9 August 1871 in Nottingham, the son of clergyman Richard A. Armstrong and his wife Clara (née Wicksteed). He worked as a schoolteacher, first in England then in Spain and Brazil. His belief in eugenics flavors both of his science fiction novels. In 1915, he married Enriqueta Fonta and the couple had four children. By 1940, they lived in Rio de Janeiro. He died there on 20 October 1962.
