Biography: Susannah Brookes Bucklee was born in 1848 in Hereford, the daughter of John Brookes Bucklee. In 1874, she married James Rainey Anderson and the couple had one son. The marriage was short-lived as her husband died the following year in Corsica. In the meantime, she published her first novel Two Strides of Destiny under her maiden name. In 1890, she remarried naval officer James Darling Barker. She resumed her writing career and published three more novels. Tragically, her son died in action in South Africa in 1901. Her husband died in the south of France in 1908 and she died there on 1 February 1909.
