Author: Emily Peart (1839–1916)

Biography: Emily Jane Peart was born in 1839 in York, the daughter of miller later farmer Joseph Peart and his first wife Jane. She must have worked as a governess for a time since she wrote A Book for Governesses. By One of Them (1868). She followed this with two novels. Her father's second wife Ann ran a "ladies' school" in York and Peart thereafter worked as a teacher. By 1881, she worked as a schoolmistress in Blackpool then later in Huddersfield. She never married and died in 1916 in Ormskirk.
