History: Charles Kegan Paul (1828–1902) bought the publishing business of Henry S. King in 1877. Alfred Chenevix Trench joined the company in 1881, Nicolas Trübner and George Redway joined in 1889, and Spencer Blackett joined in 1895. Kegan Paul was the husband of novelist Margaret Agnes Paul.
