Biography: Hélène Eugenie Alexandra Gingold was born in 1866 in London, the daughter of Turkish stockbroker Moritz "Maurice" Gingold. She grew up in wealth and comfort. As a young woman, she began writing novels beginning with Steyneville (1885). In 1890, she married South African stockbroker Henry De Stedingk but the marriage ended in divorce in 1895. The following year she married author and playwright Laurence Cowen. Gingold herself would go on to write plays as well. She died in 1926 in London.
