Author: Sir Henry Pottinger (1834–1909)

Biography: Sir Henry Pottinger was born in 1834 in China, the son of Lieutenant-General the Right Hon. Sir Henry Pottinger (1789–1856), the one-time governor of Hong Kong. He attended Eton and Merton College and was called to the bar in 1861. In 1863, he married Mary Adeline Shepperdson and the couple had one daughter. Pottinger suceeded his brother as baronet in 1865 and his wife died the following year. He never remarried. He wrote the historical novel Blue and Green (1879) about sixth century Constantinople. An avid sportman, he later wrote the memoir Flood, Fell, and Forest (1905). He died in 1909.
