Biography: Mary Ann Danet Gifford was born in 1831 in Leigh, Worcestershire, the eldest daughter of Thomas Norbury. In 1853, she married the Hon. George Gifford, the rector of Rackenford, Devon and fourth son of the first Lord Gifford of St. Leonards. In addition to a collection of poems, she wrote two novels, both of which received poor reviews. Gifford died at the age of 40 on 23 October 1871.
