Author: Joseph Milner Macmaster (1855–1922)

Biography: Joseph Milner Macmaster was born in 1855 in Staffordshire, the son of Baptist minister Robert Paton Macmaster. He attended Bristol Grammar School and London University before working as a teacher and journalist in London. In the 1880s, he moved to Australia where he continued to work as a journalist for the Melbourne Telegraph and Age. In 1887 he married Ellen Mary and the couple had two daughters. In fiction, he wrote but the single novel, Our Pleasant Vices (1890) set in Australia. Macmaster moved to Tasmania in 1896 and founded Devon College which he and his wife operated for many years. The family moved back to Victoria in the twenteth century. Macmaster died by drowning in 1922.
