Biography: Elizabeth Anne "Lilly" Maling Wynch was born in 1839, the daughter of George Wildes of Elm Bank, Manchester. In 1859, she married army officer William Maling Wynch, the son of Paul Marriott Wynch. The couple had three children. In 1868, she wrote her single novel. After 1861, she is not found in the census though her husband continues to identify himself as married (and not widowed). In the early twentieth century, she joined a convent using her fortune to purchase an estate in Upper Beeding for their school. She died in 1917 the The Towers, Upper Beeding.
