Biography: Mary Eliza Bramston was born in 1841 in Witham, Essex, the daughter of the Very Rev. John Bramston, the Dean of Winchester (1804–89). She lived in Winchester for forty years and wrote upwards of forty religious-themed books, beginning with the anonymous three-volume novel Erick Thorburn (1869).
