Author: John Affleck Bridges (1833–1924)
Biography: John Affleck Bridges was born in 1833 in Walmer, Kent, the eldest son of John Thomas Bridges and brother of the poet Robert Bridges (1844–1930). He attended Christ Church, Oxford. Afterwards, he owned a farm in Kings Norton, Worcester. He produced three collections of poetry and (relatively late in life) three novels: A Brummagem Baron (1890), Poets All (1893), and Myrtle and Ivy (1895). Bridges held a number of local elective offices which he recounted in his memoir, Reminiscences of a Country Politician (1906). His later memoir of literary life is entitled Victorian Recollections (1919). He died in 1924 in Sussex.
