Author: William J. Stewart (1830–1863)

Biography: William James Stewart was born around 1830 in Kennington, Surrey. His early life cannot be traced. By 1851, he lived in Richmond with his sisters and worked as an articled clerk for a solicitor. Ten years later, he lived with his sisters in Needham and worked as a solicitor. In 1862, he published a novel Footsteps Behind Him to encouraging reviews. His second novel was serialized but poor health hampered his writing. He died on 17 October 1863 in London and his second and last novel was published posthumously.
