Author: Samuel Mullen (1802–1858)

Biography: Samuel Mullen was born in 1802 in Waterford. As a young man, he wrote two poetic works and followed with two more. In addition, he published a novel Harley Beckford (1849) anonymously. He worked in the lace trade before enduring financial reversals in the 1850s leading to bankrupcy and a successful application to the Royal Literary Fund. He died a few years later in 1858 at Woodford Bridge. He left a widow and four children.
