Biography: Mary Nicholls Daubeney White was born on 12 January 1819 in Buckshaw, Dorset, the daughter of the Rev. Samuel Fitzherbert of Buckshaw House, Somerset. Her brother was Sir William Fitzherbert, K.C.M.G. In 1855, she married the Quaker merchant Anthony Robinson White and the couple had one daughter. The marriage was short-lived since her husband died in 1859. Thereafter, she mainly resided in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset. Relatively late in life, White turned to fiction, writing five historical titles under the pseudonym "Mark Ashton." She died on 30 June 1910 in London.
