Biography: Catherine Douglas Bell was born on 29 December 1818 in Edinburgh, the daugher of solicitor William Bell and his wife Margaret Ann (née Craigie). She never married and became a prolific author under the pseduonym "Cousin Kate." She died on 15 November 1861 in Edinburgh.
