Author: Robert Brown (1820–1905)
Biography: Robert Brown was born on 3 September 1820 in Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire, the son of solicitor Robert Brown and his wife Elizabeth. He followed his father into the legal profession, taking over his father's practice at a young age. In addition, he served as clerk and registar of the County Court and clerk to the Justices. In 1843, he married Eleanor Budston and the couple had one son. A staunch protestant in religion and conservative in politics, Brown wrote several works on religious subjects, though not from any scholarly foundation. In addition, he wrote a single historical novel. By 1881, he had retired and moved to Scarborough. His wife died and he remarried to Harriet Bell. He died on 11 December 1905 in Scarborough.
