Biography: Esther Kate Wolferstan was born in 1850 in Beer Ferris, Devon, the fourth daughter of James Wolferstan and his wife Esther. For a time she worked as the assistant mistress in a high school in Plymouth. While there, she published her only novel Philip Leigh (1873) anonymously. In 1883, she married clergyman Charles Edgar Turner, the vicar of Egg Buckland, and the couple had three children. After a long illness, her husband died in 1901. She died on 5 December 1910 in Plymouth.
