Author: Alfred Whymper (1843–1904)
Biography: Alfred Whymper was born in 1843, the son of artist and wood engraver Josiah Wood Whymber and his wife Elizabeth Whitworth (née Claridge). His elder brothers were the explorer Frederick Whymper and mountaineer Edward Whymper. He trained as a printer before entering the church at age forty. He was the curate of St. James's, Derby then the vicar of St. Paul's, Nottingham. He wrote the single novel as well as writing and editing other miscellaneous work. He died in 1904 in Whaley Bridge.
