Author: Alice Jane Briggs (1857–1931)
Biography: Alice Jane Briggs was born in 1857 in Clifton, the daughter of Wesleyan minister Frederick William Briggs and his wife Ann (née Milburn). The family moved during her childhood evenually settling in Liverpool. In midlife, she turned to fiction, much aimed at juvenile readers. She never married and died in 1931 in Devon.
