Author: Harden Sidney Melville (1824–1894)

Biography: Harden Sidney Melville was born in 1824 in London, the son of engraver Henry William Melville and his wife Martha. He followed his father into art by becoming a painter and illustrator. As the latter, he took part in a survey of the northeast coast of Australia. His paintings were exhibited frequently including at the Royal Academy. He published a single novel anonymously The Adventures of a Griffin on a Voyage of Discovery (1867) which he illustrated himself. Melville married Fanny Beak in 1851 and the couple had ten children. He died on 4 June 1894 in Edmonton.
