Author: James Flamank (1801–1882)
Biography: James Flamank was born in 1801 in Exeter, the third son of George Flamank. He moved to Penzance where he carried on as a draper and silk merchant. Flamank took an interest in literature: his obituary notes his library "was extensive and well selected"; he joined a reading club; and he wrote several fiction and nonfiction works. In addition, he was for ten years the librarian of the Penzance Library. After his retirement from business in 1862, he move to Exeter then later to Bristol. In 1848, he married Mary Parker Sydal and the couple had several children. He died on 2 November 1882 in Bristol.
