Author: William Hamilton Codrington Nation (1843–1914)
Biography: William Hamilton Codrington Nation was born on 19 June 1843 in Exeter. He came from significant wealth being the lord of Rockbeare manor. He attended Eton and Oriel College, Oxford. He had a mania for the theatre, using his fortune to set several theatres to put on his plays (mostly adaptations of French and English works). He quickly gained he reputation of being the most unsuccessful manager in existence, often playing to empty houses. He also edited literary magazines wrote fiction and poetry. He died on 16 March 1914 in Dover. Nation gifted Rockbeare with 22 acres for a public park after his death.
