Biography: Patty Charlotte O'Brien was born in 1817 in London, the daughter of John Miles and his wife Charlotte. In 1846, she married the Irish educator Patrick O'Brien. The couple lived in Brighton where they ran a school. Later they moved to Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. Beginning in the 1850s, O'Brien began writing juvenlie fiction, much but not all of it published under her name. She died on 25 March 1891 in Ventnor. Note: many sources erroneously attribute her books to the similarly named Charlotte Grace O'Brien.
