Biography: Emma Windle was born in 1824 in London, the daughter of John Webb and his wife Ann. In 1855, she married clergyman William Windle and couple had seven children. Her husband served as vicar of Kirting and later rector of St. Stephens Walbrook. Relatively late in life, she wrote an anonymous novel Marian Ellis (1873) whose protagonist shares the name with her youngest daughter. She died on 30 December 1902 in Sidmouth.
