Biography: John Percy Gordon was born in 1849 in Bexley, the son of merchant Cosmo W. Gordon and his wife Ellen. He attended Pocklington Grammar School in Yorkshire before being called to the bar. He was a solicitor in London when he wrote a single novel Greville Landon (1872) under the pseudonym "Pier Lisle." In 1882, he married Annie Bridget Wilkieson and the couple had at least one son. He died on 18 December 1895 in Kensington.
