Overview

Begun in 2007, At the Circulating Library: A Database of Victorian Fiction, 1837-1901 offers a biographical and bibliography database of nineteenth-century British fiction. The database is hosted by the Victorian Research Web, a free research resource for Victorian scholars.

The database currently contains entries for 26,209 titles, 6,287 authors, and 823 publishers as well as information about genres, illustrations, and serializations.

Inside, users will find:

  • Lists of Victorian authors with thousands of author biographies
  • Lists of Victorian fiction titles, including by publisher or year
  • Lists of serializations, including by periodical or year
  • List of Victorian novels in parts
  • Many statistics and graphs on Victorian fiction publishing
  • Downloadable datasets of authors and titles
