Biography: Maria Bainbridge was born on 5 May 1812 near St. Asaph, Wales, the daughter of Liverpool merchant George Cole Bainbridge and his wife Jane (née Hobson). In 1849, she married Thomas Edward Freeman in Florence and the couple had no children. Prior to her marriage, she wrote a novel Rose of Woodlee (1843) and another after along with works for children. She died on 27 August 1863 near Mallow, Ireland.
