Author: Harriette Amiel Chalcraft (1832–1891)

Biography: Harriette Amiel Chalcraft was born in 1832 in Leyton, Essex, the daughter of Richmond Chalcraft, a professor of classics, and Charlotte D. Amiel. Her grandfather was Capt. H.S. Amiel, 7th Hussars. Very little is known of her life. In her early twenties, she wrote three anonymous novels: The Curate of Overton (1854), Millicent (1855), and Lucy Aylmer (1857). She never married and died in 1891.
