Author: Emma Whitehead (1807–1885)
Biography: Emma Whitehead was born on 18 April 1807 in London, the daughter of a London merchant. Her brother was the author Charles Whitehead. After the loss of her father's fortune, she and her sister ran a school for many years and later Whitehead would work as a governess. In addition, she attempted literature, writing a novel, a collection of poems, and a play, but none seem to have been renumerative. She successfully applied twice to the Royal Literary Fund. She died in 1885 in Hendon.
