Author: Charles Foveaux Kirby (1812–1880)

Biography: Charles Foreaux Kirby was born on 22 April 1812 in Chelsea, the eldest son of Sir Richard Charles Kirby, one time accountant-general of the army. Kirby joined the Madras Native Infantry in 1829 and rose to the rank of major before retirement. In 1847, he married Caroline Headley and the couple had six children. In retirement, Kirby served on the Mysore Commission and wrote the novel The Adventures of an Arcot Rupee (1867). He died on 4 April 1880 in Reigate.
