Biography: Ellen Allport was born in 1863 in Brixton, the daughter of merchant Douglas Allport and his wife Ellen. Under the pseudonym "Capel Vane", she published a novel The Desire of the Moth (1895). In 1901, she still lived with her family in Acton, describing her occupation as a "writer of fiction." She never married and died in 1948 in London.
