Author: Louisa Crow
Author: Louisa Crow (1826–1895)
Alternate Name(s): Louisa Elizabeth Fenn (maiden name)
Biography: Louisa Elizabeth Crow was born on 3 July 1826 in Pimlico, the daughter of Charles Fenn and his wife Louisa. In 1848, she married Stephen Crow and the couple had several children. Judging by the censuses, her husband had several low-paying jobs (inn keeper, carpenter) which may have pushed Crow into authorship as a way of supporting the family. She contributed many stories to publisher John Dicks's cheap novels series but did go on to publish several longer works with better publishers. She died of influenza on 17 March 1895 in Farnham. An obituary opines, she died "literally in harness after forty years' continuous production of a long series of novels." Note: various reference works give her name as "Louisa A. Crow" which is clearly an error.
