Biography: Edwin Hodder was born on 13 December 1837 in Staines. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1856 but returned to England after a few years. He joined the civil service, working for the national bank. In his spare time, he wrote fiction, poetry, and hymns. To add to his literary labours, Hodder edited the short-lived All the World Over. He died on 1 March 1904 in Sussex. He left a widow and seven children.
