Author: Charles James Lee
Author: Charles James Lee (1870–1956)
Biography: Charles James Lee was born on 2 March 1870 in Lambeth, the son of artist James Noah Lee and his wife Elizabeth (née Read). Lee himself studied art for a time before turning to writing as an author and journalist. In the 1890s, he wrote three novels. At least two of his novels were set in Cornwall and were singled out for praise of his portrayal. Lee's connection to Cornwall seems to be based on briefly studying art in Penzance. In addition to fiction and journalism, Lee wrote several one-act plays. He married twice. Later in life, he became a book editor and publisher's reader for Dent, notable for his use of green ink in proofreading. He died on 11 May 1856 in Letchworth, Hertfordshire.
