Author: William Johnston (1856–1906)

Biography: William Johnston was born in 1856 in St. Andrews, Durham. For eighteen years he was the headmaster of the Kempston Urban Schools in Bedford. An accomplished painter, he also turned his hand to fiction, contributing to the Boy's Own Paper and writing several novels for boys. He married and had two sons and one daughter. Ill health forced Johnston to resign his position and he died a short time later on 3 June 1906 in Bedford.
