Author: Richard Short (1841–1916)

Biography: Richard Short was born on 29 December 1841 in St. Ives, the son of master mariner Richard Short and his wife Grace (née Ninnes). He went to sea for about twelve years in the merchant service. He gave up the sea and turned to art specializing in nautical scenes. After visiting the ruins of Ephesus, he wrote a novel Saronia (1900) which he illustrated himself. In 1868, he married Charlotte Martin Noall and the couple had six children. He died suddenly on 8 December 1916 in Cardiff.
