Author: Ellen Velvin (born 1862)

Biography: Ellen Velvin was born in 1862 in Plymouth, the daughter of watchmaker James F. Velvin. Her early life cannot be traced. She took an interested in animal life becoming a Fellow of the Zoological Society. Nearly all of her works, both fiction and nonfiction, center on stories about animals. Around 1900, she emigrated to New York where she continued her literary work. Notably, she corresponded with Theodore Roosevelt. She cannot be traced after 1914. She may have married and stopped writing.
