Biography: Catherine Emma Mallandaine was born in 1859 in Camberwell, the daughter of Henry Smith and Charlotte Gordon Whitnall. Her early life cannot be traced. By the early 1880s, she was already publishing fiction anonymously with S. P. C. K. and she would go to be a prolific author for them. In 1894, she married business manager Henry Lucien Mallandaine. She had no children and died on 18 April 1925 in Penn, Staffordshire.
