Author: Emily Sarah Holt (1836–1893)
Biography: Emily Sarah Holt was born in 1836 in Bacup, Lancashire, the daughter of John Holt. Her brother was James Maden Holt, one-time M. P. for Lancashire. Holt and her brother were educated in Oxford, he at university and she privately. She wrote a number of historical and religious-themed books, mostly of a strongly protestant viewpoint. She never married and died on 25 December 1893 at her brother's house in Balham.
