Biography: Agnes "Nesta" Shakespeare Higginson was born on 13 July 1864 in Mauritius, the daughter of colonial administer Charles Henry Higginson and his wife Mary (née Macaulay). She spent her childhood in Ireland where at a young age she began writing fiction and poetry under the pseudonym "Moira O'Neill." In 1895, she married Walter Clarmont Skrine and the couple emigrated to Alberta. After seven years in Canada, they returned to Ireland. In all, she wrote three collections of poetry and three novels. She died on 22 January 1955 in Co. Wexford, Ireland. Her daughter Mary Nesta Skrine became a novelist herself under the pseudonym "Molly Keene."
