Author: Elizabeth Spooner (1815–1886)

Biography: Elizabeth Spooner was born on 5 June 1815 in Warwickshire, the daugher of clergyman William Spooner and his wife Anna Maria. Her paternal uncle was the politician William Wilberforce. She never married and lived with her sister Catherine and her husband Archibald Campbell Tait, the Bishop of London and later Archbishop of Canterbury, in Fulham Palace and Lambeth Palace. Relatively late in life, she wrote three novels aimed at young adult readers, the first of which was dedicated to her nieces. She died of heart disease on 6 April 1886 in Eastbourne.
