Biography: Isabella Flower was born about 1830 in York, the daughter of Benjamin Dutton. Her early life cannot be traced. Under the pseudonym "Isa Bell" she began writing shorter works before producing her first novel The Discipline of Alice Lee (1868). She followed with several more novels with a strong temperance theme. By 1861, she was married to chemist John Jerrard Flower (died 1877) and living in London. By 1881, she was a widow living in York with two sons. During her widowhood, she lived as a lady's companion for a time. Later censuses have her living in Barmouth, Wales and Brighton. Her death cannot be traced. Note: identified through the Scottish Temperance League reports.
