Biography: Malcolm M'Lennan was born in January 1824 in Ireland, though he was raised in Inverness. He briefly attended Aberdeen University before being called to the bar in 1850. Among his large and varied practice, he was the Procurator Fiscal of Caithness-shire. In 1853, he married Catherine Loban and the couple had a large family. He was the author of several works of fiction about small-town Scottish life. After a long and painful illness he died on 17 September 1887 in North Berwick.
