Alternate Name(s): Lady Stoddart (married name); Martha Blackford (pseudonym)

Biography: Isabella Moncrieff was born in 1775 in Scotland, the daughter of clergyman Henry Moncrieff-Wellwood. In 1803, she married Sir John Stoddart, the Chief Justice of Malta. Under the pseudonym "Martha Blackford" or "Mrs. Blackford", she wrote several novels. She died on 2 February 1846 in Brompton.
