Author: Jeanie Salina Reeves

Author: Jeanie Salina Reeves (1827–1895)

Alternate Name(s): Sheane (maiden name); Dammast (second married name)

Biography: Jeanie Selina Reeves was born on 27 February 1827 in Limerick (or possibly Dublin), the daughter of Thomas Arthur Sheane and his wife Jane Caroline (née D'Alps). In 1846, she married Thomas Wigglesworth Reeves and the couple had nine children. Her husband's death in 1862 in all likelihood prompted her writing career beginning with Shadow and Sunshine (1864). Around this time she moved to London where she married solicitor Heinrick Adolph Dammast in 1865 and they would have three children. Reeves continued to write, albeit at a slower pace. In 1870, the family emigrated to the United States, settling first in Kansas before ending in New York City. She died on 5 May 1895 in Brooklyn.
